First Poppy Book: Lost Souls

Fav. Poppy Book: Lost Souls

Fav. Character: The Twins, Zillah

First Encounter: Early on in high school, I read constantly to escape the demands of reality. It helped me be more creative and gave me a feeling of being supernatural. Lost Souls took my love of horror, vampires, and sexual ambiguity and turned it into a tangible interest. Since I've grown up reading Anne Rica [and being an avid Twilight hater] I thought that any other vampire novel was a blatant ripoff. I was wrong.

What character reminds you of yourself the most: I tend to fit the existential and very abrasive looks [and love of sweets and alcohol] of Molochai, but my personality is closest with Zillah. I like to dominate people with my charisma and make them feel submissive/attracted to me.

If you could ask her any question, what would it be: What goes through your mind that you would die rather than have anybody know?

Do you look like Poppy Z. Brite: Other than having black hair and a vagina, no.

Has anything in your life mirrored an event in a book or story: My bisexuality tends to lean more toward complete gender blindness, so I suppose sex without the traditional roles. I used have a Twig-Molochai closeness in my last "relationship."

Do you know anyone like a character from a book or a story: My girlfriend reminds me a lot of Steve. She is a musician and focuses on things much like he does.

Do you wish anything in a book or story would happen to you or anyone else: I wish I could exude the ethereal and surreal aura that the twins have. To this day, I don't believe that the twins actually existed in the book's reality, however, they still had their own story and sadness wanting to be heard. The tragedy of the twins is one of the most beautifully described parts in literature I've ever read.

What would you like to see from Poppy in the future: Perhaps a memoir, or a twisted and sordid tragedy based on a person that one lived.
